A PHILIPPINE Senator called for the government to enable better flexible work arrangements for younger workers.

“The government and private sector must quickly adapt to the growing preference of young talents for flexible work,” Senator Sherwin T. Gatchalian said on Sunday.

Mr. Gatchalian added that the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) should implement policies that will support remote work and protect digital workers, including freelancers

He added that the agency should prioritize targeted skills training to equip local workers with skills for emerging digital roles.

Mr. Gatchalian said that delaying the implementation of these policies would risk losing younger workers to opportunities abroad or to employers more aligned with their needs.

“We need to keep pace with the rapidly changing times to ensure higher productivity and a better future for our workers,” he added

Last week, DoLE said that younger workers are now seeking more flexible work arrangements, digitally driven roles, and contributions to sustainable practices. — Adrian H. Halili
