TROPICAL DEPRESSION Kiko, which developed over extreme northern Luzon, has left the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In a 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Kiko, which is now outside PAR, has accelerated.

It was located 1,115 kilometers (km) east northeast of extreme northern Luzon, moving north northwestward at 30 km per hour (kph). It has a wind speed of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of 70 kph.

“Tropical Depression Kiko will move generally north northwestward in the next 12 hours towards southern Japan,” the weather bureau said.

“Due to favorable environmental conditions, Kiko is forecast to intensify into tropical storm tonight or tomorrow (Sept. 4) early morning.” — Edg Adrian A. Eva
