THE Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on Wednesday said that it is seeking to streamline requirements under the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program, allowing professionals to hasten the renewal of licenses.

“This is an ongoing project of the commission, and these guidelines will provide the procedures and tools in recognizing, validating, and accrediting learning outcomes gained through CPD activities,” Ramil G. Gabao, CDP Program Management Committee told a Senate hearing.

“It aims to address the issues of affordability, availability, and accessibility attached to accredited CPD program and activities,” he added.

Mr. Gabao said that the proposed guidelines would allow better compliance for CPD professionals, especially those in remote areas or have challenging work schedules.

“They will be provided additional sources of CPD activities where they can earn credits,” he added.

The CPD is a mandatory requirement for licensed professionals who plan to renew their Professional Identification Cards, a certain number of credits are needed to attain renewal of licenses. This was imposed under Republic Act no. 10912, the CPD Act.

The PRC is also proposing to make exemptions for certain professionals, upon further study by the agency.

Mr. Gabao said that the agency is also looking to involve employers in the implementation of the program by providing policies and financial support for the professionals’ compliance. — Adrian H. Halili
